The Jigawa State Government has approved the awarding of a contract for the construction of 1,000 commercial shops at Farm Centre, Kano, with a total sum of three billion, five hundred and forty-two million, ninety-two thousand, five hundred and thirty-five naira, fifty-one kobo.
This was disclosed by the President of the Civil Society Coalition on Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution, Mr. Muhammed Musbahu Basirka, during a press conference to address the general public.
Basirka made the pronouncement following the ongoing public discourse and debate in the state on the government’s plan, which has attracted both acceptance from some people and rejection by others.
The President informed the good people of Jigawa State that the state government made an informed, strategic and, most importantly, responsible decision to utilise this vital asset for the collective good.
The aim of this project is to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). He explained that Jigawa State, like many other states across the nation, grapples with the imperative of diversifying its revenue streams beyond the fluctuating federal allocations.
He stated that the project offers a golden opportunity to achieve this and explained further that developing commercial properties in a high-demand, high-traffic area like the Kano Phone Market will provide a consistent, substantial and sustainable means to boost Jigawa State’s Internally Generated Revenue.
He therefore appealed to all Jigawa State stakeholders and every well-meaning son and daughter of the state — and indeed to all citizens.
He urged people in the state to embrace the monumental development with understanding, unity, and a shared vision for the future, noting that this is a moment for collaboration, not division.
