The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) has unveiled a new register to formally recognise and regulate building technologists, technicians, and craftsmen working within the construction sector.

Announcing the initiative at a press briefing in Abuja, CORBON Chairman, Dr Samson Opaluwah, said the move aims to enhance professional growth, ensure quality control, and support career development across all levels of the building industry.

While over 4,000 builders have been formally registered since CORBON’s establishment under Decree 45 of 1989, Opaluwah noted that support personnel who form the bulk of on-site private sector workers—have long lacked proper recognition. “That’s about to change,” he said.

The new framework integrates the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) as part of its certification process, offering structured progression from entry-level to expert status for both formal and informal sector practitioners.

According to Opaluwah, the system will offer employers a transparent benchmark for hiring and training, while enabling regulators to improve oversight and workforce data management. He added that it aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda for inclusive development.

A formal call for registration applications will be announced soon, and eligible practitioners have been encouraged to seize the opportunity to regularise their professional standing.
