Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has declared 2026 as a year of unlimited opportunities for the government and people of the state, pledging to sustain and expand the pace of development across all sectors.

The Governor made the declaration in his New Year statewide broadcast aired across radio and television stations in Ekiti, where he highlighted the achievements of his administration in 2025 and outlined key priorities for the year ahead.

Oyebanji expressed gratitude to God and the people of the state for what he described as the “remarkable achievements of 2025,” assuring that his administration would build on existing successes and set higher development benchmarks in 2026.

He noted that despite numerous challenges, Ekiti recorded socio-political stability, improved security and economic growth in the outgoing year, stressing his readiness to consolidate on the gains already made.

The Governor acknowledged the support of Ekiti residents, saying their prayers, cooperation and goodwill had made governance easier, despite the challenges of leadership.

Oyebanji said he had fulfilled his promise to complete ongoing projects inherited by his administration as well as new ones initiated under his leadership, adding that projects still under construction would be delivered before the end of his current term.

Emphasising the importance of security, the Governor described the protection of lives and property as his top priority, particularly as the state prepares for the governorship election scheduled for June 2026.

He urged political stakeholders to maintain peace and conduct their activities with civility, assuring that his administration would not allow the security of the state to be undermined.

“Let me assure all Ekiti people that your security remains our number one priority. I am aware of concerns arising from security challenges in neighbouring states, but we are very deliberate, proactive and strategic in safeguarding Ekiti. By God’s grace, our state will continue to enjoy peace,” he said.

Oyebanji also promised to ensure a political environment free of intimidation and violence, calling on party leaders and candidates to embrace peaceful conduct during the electoral process.

Reflecting on infrastructural milestones, the Governor expressed satisfaction over the completion of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport and the commencement of commercial flights, describing the project as a major boost to investment, tourism and export potential.

He disclosed that work would be accelerated on the Ijigbo–Okeyinmi flyover, while the second phase of the Ring Road project would commence soon. He also announced plans for massive township road construction and rehabilitation across local government areas and communities in 2026.

The Governor further outlined plans to invest more in infrastructure, health care, rural development and education, as well as youth-focused commercial agriculture to create jobs and enhance food security. He cited the recent distribution of N1.4 billion as profit to youths participating in the Bring-Back-the-Youths-in-Agriculture project as evidence of the administration’s commitment.

Oyebanji commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Federal Government’s support to Ekiti State, particularly the approval for the reconstruction of the Itawure–Aramoko–Ado Road, noting that the contractor had already mobilised to site.

He also appreciated members of the National Assembly led by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; the Ekiti State House of Assembly, State Executive Council members, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders for their contributions to the development of the state.

“As I end this New Year address, I once again thank our traditional, religious and community leaders for their critical roles. I solicit your continued support and cooperation as we embrace the opportunities that the year 2026 holds for Ekiti State,” the Governor said.
