The Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy nationwide following an interim court order restraining the action.

The suspension comes barely weeks after the Police announced that enforcement of the policy would resume from January 2, 2026, as part of measures to enhance public safety and internal security.

However, the enforcement plan was halted after the Police were served with an interim order issued on December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, restraining the Force from proceeding with the policy pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

Confirming the development, the Police said they had complied fully with the court order and placed enforcement on hold across the country.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police explained that the interim order was granted after the Force had announced the resumption of enforcement on December 15, 2025.

The statement reads in part:
“Subsequent to the announcement, the Nigeria Police Force was served with an interim order of court restraining the Force from proceeding with the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the vacation of the order.”

The Police disclosed that they had entered appearance in court, raised preliminary objections, and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order.

“The court has adjourned the matter to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings,” the statement added.
Pending the court’s decision, the Police said enforcement of the policy would remain suspended nationwide in strict compliance with the subsisting order.

Reaffirming the Force’s commitment to the rule of law, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured Nigerians that the Police would continue to adopt lawful and intelligence-driven strategies to tackle security challenges.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in upholding the rule of law while discharging its primary mandate of protecting lives and property,” the statement noted.

The Police further assured members of the public that updates and clear guidance would be issued after the court’s determination of the matter, in the interest of public order and national security.
