Osun Gov't defends Adeleke’s health record, cites healthcare revolution

The Osun State Government has forcefully dismissed recent criticisms leveled against Governor Ademola Adeleke’s healthcare record, describing the attacks as irresponsible, ill-informed, and politically motivated.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Special Adviser on Public Health to the Governor, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, took aim at Bolaji Akinola, an aide to the immediate past governor.
Dr. Adekunle asserted that the current administration has initiated a healthcare revolution that has transformed the state’s medical landscape from the alleged neglected state left by the previous assembly.
According to the statement, the Adeleke administration has successfully upgraded over 230 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state to meet World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
Dr. Adekunle emphasized that these facilities are no longer abandoned carcasses but are now equipped with constant power supply via solar installations, steady water supply and functional medical equipment and mproved staffing and dignified service delivery
"These are verifiable facts and not press propaganda," Dr. Adekunle stated, adding that a second phase of upgrades is currently underway to ensure total coverage across the length and breadth of Osun State.
The Governor’s aide further highlighted that the state’s progress has been validated by external bodies.
He revealed that Osun State has received back-to-back awards for excellence in Primary Healthcare Delivery.
More significantly, these recognitions came with a tangible financial boost: a grant of $500,000 awarded twice to the state based on empirical performance data and independently verified outcomes.
Dr. Adekunle argued that these honors issued by a consortium of globally and nationally respected institutions serve as a definitive rebuttal to political detractors.

The statement also touched on the political friction between the current and past administrations, alleging that the wicked withholding of Local Government Allocations under the previous leadership slowed the pace of development.
Despite these challenges, the government maintains that Governor Adeleke remains focused on governance rather than noise.
The Special Adviser concluded by noting that the administration is conscious of its place in history and will continue to prioritize results over political propaganda, ensuring that the health sector remains a national reference point for excellence.
