The Ekiti State Judiciary has taken a significant step toward decongesting the Ado-Ekiti Custodial Center by facilitating the release of 57 inmates during a comprehensive jail delivery exercise.

Led by Chief Judge Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, the legal team reviewed 590 pending cases to address systemic delays in the administration of justice.

The exercise resulted in the unconditional release of 42 inmates, while nine were discharged due to a lack of evidence and six others were granted bail.

Controller of Corrections Oluremi Christy Okuseinde hailed the intervention as a vital relief for the facility, emphasizing that such collaborations between the judiciary and the Nigerian Correctional Service are essential for the effective reformation and rehabilitation of inmates.

Justice Ogunmoye also commended correctional officers for their diligence in ensuring the regular production of inmates in court, which remains critical for timely judicial outcomes.
