The Ogun State Muslim Council has announced plans to hold strategic engagements with political parties, aspirants, electoral bodies, and civil society organisations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Secretary-General of the council, Alhaji Kamal’deen Akintunde, disclosed this in a communiqué issued after the council’s general meeting in Abeokuta. He said the move, to be undertaken in collaboration with the League of Imams and Alfas, aims to promote a better society before and after the polls.

Akintunde urged Muslim faithful in the state to actively participate in the forthcoming continuous voters’ registration exercise. He also called on officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold fairness and integrity during the electoral process.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and rights of Muslims in Ogun State and endorsed a bill before the National Assembly seeking to increase women’s participation in politics.

On education, the council appealed to Imams and Qur’anic school heads to integrate vocational training and formal subjects into their curriculum to tackle the challenge of out-of-school children.

The meeting also ratified the commencement of the process to appoint a new President-General for the council.
