Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have commenced a three-day strategic retreat in Jos aimed at boosting their legislative capacity and fostering stronger collaboration in governance.

Speaker Naanlong Gapyil said the programme, which also involves principal staff of the assembly, is designed to deepen understanding of legislative processes, reflect on the mandate and powers of the house, and align with the governor’s vision for the state’s development.

He noted that participants would explore strategies for effective service delivery, assess the role of stakeholders in governance, and build networks to improve legislative performance. The retreat, he added, also provides a platform for lawmakers to bond and share experiences.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who declared the event open virtually, commended the lawmakers for the initiative and reaffirmed his administration’s support. He urged participants to fully engage with the sessions to equip themselves for the tasks ahead.

The retreat is themed “Improving Service Delivery Through Effective and Complementary Legislative Interventions.”
