The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated Dr. Ayodeji Amobonye Emmanuel, a Nigerian Biotechnology researcher, for being ranked among the top two per cent of scientists in the world by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described Amobonye’s recognition as a major milestone that places Nigeria prominently in the global scientific community.

“This is a well-deserved recognition, and we urge Dr. Amobonye to continue to blaze the trail in scientific innovation and discovery,” the statement quoted Dabiri-Erewa as saying.

Dr. Amobonye, who earned his Ph.D. at the Durban University of Technology, South Africa, is currently a Research Fellow at the Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania. He was listed among researchers whose publications have had the highest global impact across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.

The Nigerian scientist previously served as a staff member of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). He also holds a first degree from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, and a Master’s degree from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

Dabiri-Erewa noted that Amobonye’s inclusion in the list was not only a recognition of his commitment to excellence but also a source of inspiration to young scientists across Nigeria.

“Dr. Amobonye’s achievement elevates the image of Nigeria in the diaspora and stands as a beacon of excellence in Biotechnology research,” the statement added.

NiDCOM commended him for his contribution to global knowledge production and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to celebrating Nigerians breaking boundaries across the world.
