The Federal Government has cancelled the Independence Day parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th anniversary on Wednesday, October 1.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Mr Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations.

“The Federal Government wishes to announce the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade, previously scheduled to mark the 65th Independence on Wednesday, 1st October. The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.

Mr Imohiosen explained that the decision was taken after due consideration, adding that the government regrets any inconvenience caused.

He further called on Nigerians to continue supporting the reforms of President Bola Tinubu, while assuring that the anniversary would still be marked in a befitting manner.

The Federal Government also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests in accommodating the change.
