President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed that 2026 will mark a stronger phase of economic growth, with the benefits of his administration’s reforms reaching every Nigerian household.
In his New Year message, Tinubu said Nigeria ended 2025 with measurable economic gains despite global headwinds, and that the “difficult but necessary” reforms of the past year are laying the foundation for long-term prosperity.
“We are determined to reduce inflation further and ensure that the benefits of reform reach every Nigerian household,” he said.
The President highlighted that GDP grew steadily across all quarters, inflation fell below 15 per cent, trade surpluses were maintained, and the Nigerian Exchange gained 48.12 per cent, outperforming its peers.
Tinubu also noted that foreign reserves stood at $45.4 billion as of December 29, 2025, while foreign direct investment surged from $90 million to $720 million in the third quarter, reflecting renewed investor confidence supported by global credit rating agencies.
On fiscal policy, the President said: “The new year marks a critical phase in implementing our tax reforms, designed to build a fair, competitive, and robust fiscal foundation for Nigeria.” He explained that the reforms aim to eliminate multiple taxation, raise revenue sustainably, and finance infrastructure and social investments.
Security remains a key priority. Tinubu highlighted decisive actions taken against terrorist targets in the Northwest on December 24 and pledged that “security and intelligence agencies will deepen cooperation with regional and global partners” to protect lives, property, and national stability.
On inclusive growth, the President announced the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, which will empower at least 10 million Nigerians through grassroots economic activities in agriculture, trade, food processing, and mining.
He stressed that all ongoing infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agricultural projects will continue without interruption.
“To achieve our objectives in 2026, we must all play our part. Nation-building is a shared responsibility,” Tinubu said, urging Nigerians to uphold unity, patriotism, integrity, and collective purpose.
He wished the nation a peaceful, productive, and prosperous New Year and prayed for the protection of the country and its armed forces.
