The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has issued a public notice banning certain interactions between men and women, including private conversations in vehicles and public gatherings, as part of its enforcement of Sharia teachings.
The directive, dated December 31, 2025, highlights activities considered contrary to Sharia, particularly during festive periods such as weddings and Sallah celebrations.
The Commission specifically warned against “reckless driving or moving in vehicles,” “physical interaction between men and women in vehicles, particularly on Keke Napep, motorcycles, or at public gatherings,” and “private conversations under the pretext of chatting between men and women, especially in ways that Sharia does not approve.”
The notice was issued by the office of the State Commander of the Hisbah Commission, Dr. Muhammad Yawudi Kale, with the approval of the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar.
The Commission urged parents and the wider community to support the enforcement of these rules, emphasizing that the measures are intended “to preserve the moral upbringing of our children.”
