The leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has deepened as state chairmen of the party have formally backed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to delist the faction led by David Mark.
Don Norman Obinna, Chairman of the Abia State ADC Chapter, disclosed this during a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday.
He stated that the state chairmen have officially dissociated themselves from the factions led by both David Mark and Nafiu Bala Gombe.
According to Obinna, the decision was reached following a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday.
Flanked by several other state chairmen, Obinna declared, “We are in total support of INEC’s decision to derecognize the David Mark-led faction.”
He further asserted that the ADC leadership under the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, remains the only legal and authentic authority within the party.
“The ADC has no factions, we represent the legal leadership,” he added.
The move follows INEC’s decision last week to delist David Mark’s leadership group. In response, the Mark-led faction condemned the electoral body’s action, describing it as an attempt to transition Nigeria into a one-party state.
Despite the delisting, the Mark-led faction maintains that it will proceed with its scheduled congresses and national convention, slated to take place between April 7 and April 14, 2026.
