Osinbajo appointed Adviser to Africa CDC DG

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has appointed Nigeria’s former Vice President, Prof.Yemi Osinbajo as Senior Strategic Adviser to its Director-General, Jean Kaseya.
In a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Kaseya noted that Osinbajo’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as the organization advances the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty (AHSS) Agenda aimed at strengthening the continent’s voice in global health.
“At this critical moment for Africa’s health future, Prof. Osinbajo’s experience and leadership will be instrumental as we advance the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda,” the statement read.
In his new role, Osinbajo will provide counsel on Africa’s positioning in global health architecture reform, sustainable health financing, local manufacturing, strategic partnerships, and policy leadership for both the Africa CDC and the African Union.
“Together, we will continue to strengthen Africa’s voice in global health and drive sustainable, African-led solutions for our continent,” the statement disclosed further.
The Africa CDC is a continental, independent health agency of the African Union, established to support the public health initiatives of member states. It focuses on strengthening the capacity of African public health institutions to detect, prevent, control, and respond quickly and effectively to disease threats.
Recall that Prof.Osinbajo served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 2015 to 2023. During his tenure, he chaired the National Economic Council, led ease-of-doing-business reforms through the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), and played a central role in the country’s Social Investment Programmes.
