Two musicians killed, band leader missing in Abeokuta attack

In a shocking and brutal attack, two members of a local band were killed and their leader declared missing in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Abidemi Emirate, a drummer, and Olaitan Isaac, a guitarist, lost their lives in the violent assault carried out by armed assailants at the Obantoko area of Abeokuta.

The attack, which occurred between the midnight of July 12 and early July 13, 2025, has sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents expressing deep concern about the atmosphere of intimidation and fear that has gripped the area. The band leader, Salmon Ibrahim Olalekan, popularly known as Officer Malay, is still missing, with family members referring to him as deceased or missing.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants forced their way into a local event centre where the band was performing on the fateful night and carried out the violent assault. Sources close to the family claim that the attack was politically motivated, following the band's performance at a political event.

The aftermath of the attack saw chaos and pandemonium, with residents describing a scene of bloodshed and screams. In the afternoon of 13th July 2025, the band leader's home was vandalised and ransacked, while his wife, Islamiat Opeyemi Salmon, was taken away during the assault and later released on the same day.

The attack has left the music community in Abeokuta shaken, with many musicians expressing fear and concern about performing in the area. "Musicians in the community have always stayed neutral, but after this dastardly attack, people are scared to perform," said a community member.

The incident has raised questions about the safety and security of citizens in Ogun State, and the authorities are yet to comment on the investigation into the attack.
