Armed men abduct girl in Edo community, dump her with broken leg

A terrifying late-night attack in Ekpon, Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, saw suspected armed Fulani herders abduct a young girl, Ivy Iwinosa Obakpolor, only to abandon her later with a broken leg.

The incident occurred on the night of October 9, 2025, when the attackers stormed the Obakpolor family residence at No. 67 Olenokhua Quarters in Ekpon. While initially attempting to force entry and kidnap multiple individuals, the herders eventually abducted young Ivy.

The victim’s mother, Obakpolor Enore Loveth, recounted the trauma. "They invaded our house... and demanded that I open the door, but I refused," she told newsmen. "They threatened to kill everyone inside."

She confirmed that as they searched the compound, they abducted her daughter, who was later found abandoned along a bush path near the house, severely injured. Locals discovered the injured girl and rushed to her aid.

In a separate, but related, incident underscoring the ongoing security crisis, a teenage girl identified as Blessing was rescued by operatives of the Edo State Security Network five days after her abduction.

Blessing was reportedly kidnapped near Ayogwiri while returning from her farm with a group of women. The assailants led the victims deep into the forest before security operatives successfully tracked and rescued the teenage girl in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area.

Security sources revealed that the herders specifically targeted women returning from their farms, subjecting Blessing to harsh and dangerous conditions during her captivity. An emotional viral video circulating on social media captured the moment the girl was pulled out of the dense forest after nearly a week.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the Edo State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Yamu, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
