Tributes, prayers planned in Lagos for Late Edwin Clark
Former presidents, governors, traditional rulers, and prominent Nigerians are expected to gather in Lagos on Thursday for a tribute and prayer event in honour of the late Chief Edwin Clark, the veteran Niger Delta leader who passed away in February at the age of 97.
The announcement was made in a statement on Tuesday by Mrs Baroong Tony-Uranta, on behalf of the Lagos Tributes for Clark Organising Committee.
According to the statement, the memorial event is being organised at the request of Dr Abisola Shodipo-Clark, the widow of the deceased, in collaboration with his associates.
The gathering aims to reflect on the life and legacy of the former Federal Commissioner for Information and Second Republic Senator, who served the country notably during his time in Lagos in the 1970s and 1980s.
The programme, to be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja from 2 p.m., will feature a lecture on “True Federalism and Resource Control in Nigeria,” delivered by Prince Fafaa Dan-Princewill.
The tribute will also include a session of songs and prayers led by The Trinity House under the guidance of Pastor Ituah Ighodalo.
Guests expected include former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the wife of Chief Emeka Anyaoku, PANDEF Chairman Godknows Igali, Afenifere acting leader Oba Oladipo Olaitan, General Ike Nwachukwu (retired), Obong Victor Attah, Dr Kalu Idika Kalu, Sir Kensington Adebutu, Chief Nike Akande, and Chief Maiden Ibru.
Others listed are Chief Goodie Ibru, Chief Wale Babalakin, governors of the six South-West states, traditional rulers from the region, and prominent Niger Delta figures.
Organising committee officials include Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, Chief Paxy Alakeme, High Chief John Odeyemi, Mrs Barong Uranta, Mr Olumide Ajayi, and veteran activist Olawale Okunniyi. Dr Abisola Shodipo-Clark will serve as the chief host.
