Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has celebrated the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on her installation as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.

In a message shared on Instagram, Sanwo-Olu described the honour as “well-earned”, noting that Senator Tinubu’s long years in public service and her dedication to national progress made her deserving of such a prestigious cultural title.

He stated that the installation recognised not just her political journey, but also her contributions to preserving Yoruba heritage.

He wrote: “The title celebrates her leadership, her service and the moral strength she has always shown, for the entire Oodua family, this is a moment of pride.”

The ceremony, held in Ile-Ife, brought together prominent traditional rulers, political figures, cultural organisations and dignitaries from across the South-West.

The Yeye Asiwaju title is regarded as one of the highest honours bestowed on women within the Oodua cultural sphere, reserved for individuals seen as champions of unity, integrity and community development.

Senator Tinubu, a three-term lawmaker and former First Lady of Lagos State, is widely known for her advocacy on education, women’s empowerment and social welfare.

Throughout her time in the Senate, she promoted legislation aimed at improving social protection and strengthening the rights of women and children.

Sanwo-Olu added that the Yoruba cultural legacy remains central to the identity of Lagos State and must be protected through celebrations that honour worthy individuals.

Senator Tinubu’s new chieftaincy title, he said, reinforces that tradition and highlights her expanding national role.
