The Adamawa State Government has imposed a full 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a fresh outbreak of communal violence that erupted on Sunday evening.
The announcement was made on Monday through a statement issued by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, who said the decision was taken “to urgently stop the escalating hostilities and restore order.”
According to local accounts, heavily armed Chobo-speaking militias allegedly crossed in from neighbouring Gombe State and joined forces with elements within Adamawa to carry out coordinated attacks on Bachama communities in Lamurde. Residents said scores were feared dead after the assailants advanced from the creek areas bordering Gombe.
Witnesses told reporters that the attackers “swept through the western axis,” overrunning several communities including Tingno, Waduku and at least two other settlements. Many villagers were said to have fled into nearby bushes for safety.
Hammangabdo confirmed that security agencies had been directed to move in immediately to stabilise the area and prevent further bloodshed.
He urged residents to remain calm and obey the curfew order while the government works to restore peace.
The state authorities also appealed for restraint, saying the situation required collective cooperation to prevent a wider outbreak of violence.
