The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims that the controversy surrounding the Local Government administration in the state has been settled, revealing that a suit determining the tenure of the reinstated chairmen has been adjourned to February 2026.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the APC State Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the party accused Governor Ademola Adeleke and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of deliberately misinforming the public to curry unmerited sympathy.
Lawal clarified that the Federal High Court is still hearing Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/147/2025, which seeks to determine whether the reinstated APC chairmen and councilors are entitled to a fresh three-year tenure starting from their resumption in early 2025.
“The matter came up last month and has been adjourned to February 2026,” Lawal stated. “The suit is also seeking court determination on whether the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) had the power to conduct another election in February 2025 during the subsistence of the tenure of the reinstated elected chairmen.”
The APC Chairman described the local government elections conducted by the PDP administration on February 22, 2025, as a ruse and an illegal declaration that holds no water in the face of the law.
He argued that the recent Supreme Court judgment, which struck out a suit filed by the Osun Attorney-General against the Attorney-General of the Federation, has further exposed the vulnerability of the state government’s position.
Lawal warned officials of the state government, particularly the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, to desist from parroting narratives that incite the public against the APC.
“The antics of the PDP-led government are nothing but a deliberate attempt to incite the innocent members of the public against the APC. It doesn’t represent the position of the law and extant judgment on the ground,” the statement read.
