The Police Command in Katsina State has arrested four suspects with 70 railway sleepers allegedly vandalised and concealed in a vehicle conveying 17 bags of animal feed.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Katsina.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the suspects were arrested on Oct. 11 when police operatives on routine stop-and-search duty intercepted a white J5 vehicle along the Kurfi–Tsanni Village Road.
The PPRO said a search of the vehicle revealed 70 railway sleepers concealed behind 17 bags of animal feed.
He said preliminary investigations showed that one of the suspects, Nuhu, had confessed to receiving the items from one Anas Mohammed, a Bauchi State resident who was currently at large.
According to him, the stolen items were allegedly intended for delivery to one Umar Bashir in Katsina.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the four suspects remained in police custody, while the vehicle, railway sleepers and bags of animal feed had been recovered and secured as exhibits.
He added that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and establish the exact location from which the railway sleepers were vandalised.
The PPRO quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ali Umar-Fage, as reiterating the command’s commitment to combating the vandalisation of critical national infrastructure.
Umar-Fage urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to assist the police in preventing crime and apprehending suspected offenders.
