…As family members flee attack
A Nigerian soldier, identified as Joseph Dada, has reportedly been killed in an ambush by Boko Haram insurgents in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State in the month of June, 2026.
Joseph was said to have been attacked alongside other soldiers while on a routine patrol in the forest.
Sources within the military, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, alleged that the soldier had previously been targeted by members of the insurgent group and some soldiers suspected of having links with the terrorists.
According to the sources, Joseph had allegedly provided information that contributed to the arrest of some soldiers accused of supplying weapons to Boko Haram. The circumstances surrounding the alleged collaboration and the events leading to his death, however, could not be independently verified.
The incident took a further tragic turn when terrorists reportedly attacked Joseph’s residence, allegedly killing a neighbour and one member of his family.
Other members of the family reportedly escaped during the attack.
Among those said to have fled was Joseph’s son, Joseph Isaac Abidemi, who was reportedly pursued by the attackers and has not been seen since the incident.
His disappearance has been brought to the attention of both the police and military authorities.
The whereabouts and fate of Joseph Isaac Abidemi remain unknown, as efforts to establish whether he is alive and where he may be have continued.
Authorities had yet to publicly confirm details of the soldier’s death, the alleged attack on his family or the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of his son at the time of filing this report.
