Opposition leader, Peter Obi has issued a critique of the Federal Government’s fiscal management, accusing the administration of fiscal recklessness through the implementation of multiple overlapping budgets.
In a statement released on Monday, Obi expressed concern over a pattern of fraudulent fiscal policy, noting that the government has been simultaneously operating items from several fiscal years.
He argued that this practice undermines budget credibility and makes it nearly impossible for the public to track actual expenditure.
Obi highlighted that despite total appropriations exceeding ₦114 trillion over the past three years, actual budget implementation has remained consistently below 50 percent.
He specifically warned that the proposed 2026 budget lacks the necessary transparency regarding capital projects and debt servicing priorities.
Calling for urgent reforms, the former presidential candidate asserted that no nation can succeed by mortgaging the future of its children through thoughtless borrowing, and urged the government to restore discipline by publishing detailed treasury and implementation reports.
