Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, has urged members to prioritize institutional integrity and the rule of law as the party navigates a period of intense internal friction.

Speaking at the 85th BoT meeting on Monday, February 2, 2026, Ohuabunwa who leads the BoT faction aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike described the board as the custodian of the party’s soul.

He acknowledged that while leadership crises and legal battles have tested the party’s cohesion, the PDP’s survival remains rooted in its institutions rather than individual personalities.

Ohuabunwa offered a robust defense of the decision to delay party congresses, characterizing the move as a deliberate act of institutional caution in deference to ongoing judicial proceedings.

He specifically cited a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan that affirmed the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman-led National Caretaker Committee, calling on all members to respect the judiciary to avoid internal decay.

Warning that parties collapse from within rather than from external opposition, the Chairman concluded by urging trustees to act as anchors of stability to facilitate the party’s eventual resurgence.
