The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) FCT Council has officially declared a massive mobilization of its workforce, directing over 30,000 members across dozens of affiliate unions to converge on the nation’s capital today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
The planned demonstration is a direct response to a series of unmet demands and unresolved grievances regarding workers’ welfare and broader economic challenges.
In a directive issued late Saturday, Council Chairperson Comrade Stephen Knabayi instructed all affiliate unions to adhere to specific minimum quotas for member participation to ensure a significant and impactful presence.
The council has designated the Labour House in Abuja as the primary assembly point, with workers expected to gather as early as 7:00 AM prompt.
To maintain a unified and organized front, participants have been mandated to appear in their respective union attires.
The protest features an extensive coalition of labor groups, spanning virtually every sector of the FCT economy.
Participating organizations include major unions from the education and health sectors such as the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).
They are joined by critical infrastructure and energy unions, including the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), PENGASSAN, and NUPENG.
The demonstration will also see participation from transport and judiciary sectors, represented by the NURTW, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), and app-based transport workers.
Even retirees and financial sector employees are expected to join via the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and NUBIFIE. By uniting these diverse interests under a single banner, the NLC FCT Council aims to exert maximum pressure on the government to take concrete actions on the issues currently undermining the livelihoods of thousands of workers in the Federal Capital Territory.
