The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the killing of Ezekiel Olapade, a 14-year-old boy, in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state, describing the incident as wicked, barbaric and unacceptable.

The party called on the Osun State Police Command to launch an immediate investigation into the incident and ensure that all those connected with the killing are identified and prosecuted.

In a statement issued on Monday by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, the party said the killing of the teenager was a senseless act that must not go unpunished.

“It was the display of the highest level of an act of wickedness for anyone to have resorted to cutting short the life of such a promising teenager for any reason,” the statement read.

The APC called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into what it described as the extra-judicial killing of the teenager and bring both direct and indirect perpetrators to justice.

The party also sympathised with the bereaved family and residents of Ilobu, praying for the repose of the deceased and for God to grant his parents the strength to bear the loss.

“We are commiserating with the parents and the entire Ilobu community over the needless and wicked killing of their son and praying fervently to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable sudden death of their son,” it stated.

The opposition party warned individuals allegedly using political activities as a cover to perpetrate violence to desist, insisting that violence does not reflect the ideals of the APC or its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

According to the statement, Oyebamiji does not believe in violence and has never sponsored attacks against political opponents, maintaining that no political ambition is worth the life of any individual.

The APC further urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to fulfil his constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property, accusing his administration of politicising security issues in the state.

It also commended its members and supporters for maintaining peace despite what it described as provocation and urged them to remain law-abiding in the interest of sustaining peace across Osun State.
