Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced plans to begin commissioning completed projects across the state’s three senatorial districts, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure growth and effective governance.

The disclosure was made in a statement issued by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, and shared with journalists on Sunday, 27 July 2025.

According to the statement, the governor revealed that the initiative would be modelled after similar exercises in the Federal Capital Territory.

“Very soon, we will replicate what Nyesom Wike is doing in the Federal Capital Territory by commissioning projects for a whole month. We are planning that in Edo State. We will soon commence the commissioning of completed projects across the three senatorial districts,” it read.

The statement contrasted the administration’s achievements with previous efforts:

“The past government said they were going to do a seaport; they never did a half-kilometre. But today, we are doing it. We are constructing roads across Edo. We will accomplish in one year what they could not do in eight years. Our work will speak for us.”

Governor Okpebholo made the remarks during a rally in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo Central Senatorial District, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed several prominent defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The event marked a significant political development in the region, with PDP figures such as Hon. Eugene Inegbobho, the current member representing Igueben in the Edo State House of Assembly; Hon. Felix Omi Imiesili, former council chairman and ex-PDP state secretary; and Hon. Sylvanus Igbogbo leading dozens of their supporters into the APC.

Expressing gratitude to party members, the governor linked the wave of defections and completed infrastructure projects to growing public trust and political momentum. “That means my promise of 2.5 million votes to the President comes 2027 is possible,” the statement noted.

Other dignitaries at the rally included Gen. Cecil Isekhaigbe (rtd), APC leader in Edo Central, and Jarret Tenebe, Edo APC State Chairman, among others.

Governor Okpebholo assured supporters that his administration would deliver results exceeding those of the previous government in a shorter timeframe, with the forthcoming commissioning exercise serving as proof of widespread development across Edo State.
