Political setbacks continue to hit the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State as two prominent members—Engr. Abubakar Adamu Waziri and Hajiya Iyani Umaru—have announced their resignation from the party, citing persistent internal crises and misalignment of values.

Waziri, a former House of Representatives candidate for Potiskum/Nangere Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections, disclosed his decision in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman for Potiskum Local Government. In the letter, he described the move as “deliberate” and driven by the “adverse effect of serial incidents within the party.”

“This decision has not been easy for me, but I feel it is necessary due to my political ambition,” Waziri said. “I sincerely thank the PDP for giving me the opportunity to thrive and for entrusting me with the House of Reps ticket during the last election. However, I’ve come to realise that my personal beliefs and values no longer align with those of the party.”

Waziri further confirmed his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), effective immediately.

In a related development, the immediate past PDP women leader in Fune Local Government Area, Hajiya Iyani Umaru, also announced her resignation from the party in a letter dated July 24, 2025.

Citing prolonged internal divisions and unresolved conflicts, Umaru said the environment within the party had become unconducive. “It has become increasingly difficult for me to continue my involvement in good conscience,” she stated. “However, it has been a privilege to contribute my quota to the growth of the party, and I will always value the experiences gained.”

Their exit adds to growing concerns over internal stability in the PDP, especially in Yobe State where the party has faced mounting challenges in recent years.
