The Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ward 4 in Sagamu, Ogun State, has insisted that the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel remains valid, declaring that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) lacks the authority to overturn the decision.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday at the Ward Secretariat in Sabo, Sagamu, the Ward executives maintained that the suspension of the Ogun East Senator was carried out in line with the APC constitution and remains in effect until overturned through the proper appeal process.

Their position contrasts with a letter issued by the APC national leadership on 17 November 2025, directing the Ogun State chapter to halt further action pending a formal review.

The letter, signed by the National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Basiru, noted that the NWC had yet to deliberate on the suspension as required by Article 21.3 of the party’s constitution.

The National Secretariat had urged the state chapter to allow the NWC carry out a formal investigation before issuing further public statements, adding that Senator Daniel “remains a bona fide member of the APC”.

But addressing journalists, the Ward Secretary, Mr Durojaiye Oluwole, dismissed the interpretation of the National Secretariat and a press statement issued by MJS Partners on behalf of Senator Daniel.

He stressed that the suspension was initiated by the Ward Executive after the senator allegedly ignored invitations to respond to accusations of anti-party activities.

According to him, the disciplinary action followed complaints that Senator Daniel worked against the party’s interests during the last general elections and attempted to influence proceedings at the Election Petitions Tribunal in a manner “hostile to the APC and its candidates”.

Oluwole argued that the APC constitution clearly empowers Executive Councils at the Ward, Local Government, State, Zonal or National levels to initiate disciplinary action. He maintained that while the NWC can suspend members under Article 21(5)(vii), it does not have overriding powers to set aside disciplinary decisions taken by lower party organs.

He added that any such suspension remains in force unless appealed, noting that “no provision of Article 21(4) subjects the Ward’s decision to NWC review.”

“The directive contained in the letter of the National Secretary is misplaced and has no foundation in the party’s constitution,” he said. “The NWC cannot review, nullify or reverse the valid suspension imposed on Senator Olugbenga Daniel by the appropriate party organs in Ogun State.”

He emphasised that although Senator Daniel has not been expelled, the subsisting suspension places a temporary hold on all his rights and privileges within the party.

The Ward leadership reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and due process, insisting that the suspension remains fully in effect.
