The factional Board of Trustees of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, loyal to the party’s factional National Chairman, Mr Nafiu Bala, has dismissed the David Mark-led coalition as an “illegal and unacceptable arrangement” backed by a rival leadership.
The faction’s BoT Secretary, Mr Rufus Ekenmi, made the declaration on Thursday during a press conference in Abuja.
Ekenmi criticised what he described as an attempt by “individuals who sneaked into the party under the guise of a coalition”, claiming they were attempting to contaminate the ADC with “a spirit of political indiscipline”.
He announced that the faction had authorised Mr Bala to activate a disciplinary committee to penalise any member found collaborating with the coalition or holding engagements with prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr Peter Obi, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, Senator David Mark, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, Mr Abubakar Malami, Mr Babachir Lawal, Mr Emeka Ihedioha, Mr Liyel Imoke, among others.
Responding to his endorsement by the faction, Mr Bala pledged to uphold the ADC constitution and assured members of a fair, firm, and transparent leadership.
He further accused the coalition of violating the party’s constitution by operating from what he called a “parallel headquarters”.
“I must state unequivocally that our party constitution clearly provides that only registered members in good standing are entitled to party privileges, including access to official premises,” Bala said.
