The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has reinforced its collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force to ensure greater adherence to the Third-Party Motor Insurance policy across the country.
In a statement released on Thursday, Mrs. Bola Odukale, NIA’s Director-General, expressed her appreciation for the police’s efforts since enforcement of the policy commenced on 1 February. Odukale also recognised the pivotal role played by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, in leading the initiative.
Addressing the NIA’s ongoing commitment to the growth of the insurance industry and protection of consumers, Odukale pointed to the significant but often overlooked value of motor insurance. To bolster enforcement, the NIA committed to organising workshops for Divisional Traffic Officers, aimed at deepening their understanding of insurance, particularly the third-party coverage requirement.
In response, CP Olorundare Jimoh assured that the police remained fully committed to the policy’s enforcement under the IGP’s directive. He also stressed the importance of public awareness campaigns to combat the issue of fraudulent insurance certificates.
