The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) says the new Nigeria Capital Market Master Plan (NCMMP) 2.0 targets growth of the market from N250 trillion to N750 trillion.
The Director-General of SEC, Dr Emomotimi Agama, said this in a statement issued by the Commission on Wednesday in Abuja.
Agama said the NCMMP 2026–2036 was a 10-year strategic blueprint for developing Nigeria’s capital market, aligned with Nigeria Agenda 2050 and the Renewed Hope Development Plan (2026–2030).
He said the plan would outline how Nigerians’ savings could become a major driver of national economic growth.
Agama the plan’s implementation would promote regulatory clarity, coordination and enforcement, modernise market infrastructure, and diversify products and issuance.
He added that the plan would deepen the investor base, strengthen institutional capacity and promote professional development.
Agama said a deeper capital market would provide pensioners with safer and better-rewarded retirement savings.
“For the small business owner, it means long-term finance beyond the bank overdraft.
“For the young graduate with a smartphone, it means an investment account opened in minutes and for a state government, it means funding for roads and hospitals its citizens can see and use.
“That is what the capital market is for,” he said.
Agama said the master plan would be formally inaugurated at the National Capital Market Conference on October 19, alongside the National Savings Scheme.
He said the simultaneous launch was deliberate because savings were the raw material of investment, adding that countries that saved through their capital markets could finance development with domestic resources.
“A plan is only as good as the will to carry it out, and this one belongs to all of us,” he said.
Agama assured issuers and investors that the rules were clear and that the market was ready to fund their growth.
“To investors at home and abroad, the rules are clearer, the protections stronger and the opportunities wider than ever.
“To state governments, there is a better way to finance development, to market operators and professionals, your skills and integrity are the foundation on which everything else rests.
“Nigeria has spent the past few years doing the hard work of reform, the next 10 years are about harvesting it.
“With NCMMP 2.0, we intend to build a capital market worthy of a great nation, one that works for every Nigerian who dares to save, invest and believe in our shared future,” he said.
