The Senate Minority Caucus has dismissed reports suggesting that the Senate rejected electronic transmission of election results during the clause-by-clause consideration of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

The caucus clarified the development on Wednesday shortly after the Senate passed the bill at plenary, insisting that electronic transmission remains part of the amended legislation.

Briefing journalists, Minority Leader Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe explained that Section 60(3) of the bill explicitly provides for real-time transmission of results from polling units to the INEC Result Viewing (IREV) portal.

According to him, the provision states that results from each polling unit shall be transmitted to the IREV portal in real time after the prescribed Form EC8 has been duly signed and stamped by the presiding officer and countersigned by available candidates or polling agents.

Abaribe assured Nigerians that the minority caucus would ensure that agreements reached during the clause-by-clause consideration are accurately reflected in the official votes and proceedings of the bill’s passage.

He urged the public to disregard misinformation, stressing the caucus’ commitment to safeguarding transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral process
