The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned that it will take legal action following a controversial meeting convened by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with leaders of political parties, including some former PDP members claiming to lead a so-called “National Caretaker Committee.”

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP stressed that there is no provision in its constitution recognizing such a committee. The party described INEC’s invitation to the former members as “vexatious” and potentially capable of creating confusion and unrest.

“The current INEC leadership should have considered pending cases at the Court of Appeal, including judgments relevant to this matter,” the statement noted. The party added that it would respond through all legal channels to ensure the integrity of its leadership is preserved.

Ememobong assured members that INEC will not dictate or choose a leadership for the PDP. “Our party remains steadfast, and we will not allow external actions to compromise our internal processes,” he said.

The PDP also reaffirmed confidence in its “Rebirth” movement, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN. The statement described the movement as “steady and secure” despite ongoing challenges, highlighting the party’s commitment to unity and resilience.

The party concluded by promising that it would emerge stronger and more united, presenting itself as a credible alternative to the ruling party, which it accused of bringing “untold sorrows, tears, and blood” to Nigerians.
