The 50th-anniversary celebrations of Ogun State reached a crescendo on Thursday as a massive cultural carnival and road show transformed the streets of Abeokuta into a theatre of music, dance, and regional pride.

The festivities featured six elaborately decorated floats representing the diverse regions of the state: Remo, Ijebu, Yewa, and Egba (RIYE), along with a specialized fish-themed float honoring the state’s riverine communities.

Over 3,000 participants from all 20 local government areas including traditional dancers, masquerades, skaters, and bikers marched from Oke-Igbein through major hubs like Omida and Oke-Ilewo, culminating in a grand reception at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.

Addressing the crowd, Governor Dapo Abiodun lauded the resilience and creativity of the Ogun people, stating that the carnival serves as a testament to the state’s organizational capacity and cultural depth.

He noted that Ogun has solidified its position not only as Nigeria’s Gateway to industrial prosperity but also as a hub for tourism and social awakening.

The Governor paid tribute to past leaders and the dedicated civil service for laying the foundations that have allowed the state to thrive over the last five decades.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to people-focused policies, describing the Golden Jubilee as a moment of all-time high state pride and a celebration of a shared identity that transcends regional boundaries.
