LAWMA, security agencies dislodge illegal traders along Ketu — Mile 12 axis

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), through its Project WISE initiative, in collaboration with the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), the Nigeria Police Force and military personnel, has commenced a joint enforcement operation to remove illegal traders occupying walkways and unauthorised spaces along the Ketu–Ile-Ile–Mile 12 axis.

The enforcement operation, which was carried out on Monday, targeted traders who had encroached on pedestrian walkways and other spaces designated for public use.

The exercise is aimed at restoring access for pedestrians and road users, while addressing activities contributing to disorder and obstruction along the busy corridor.

According to LAWMA, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain a cleaner, safer and more organised Lagos, with emphasis on preventing the reoccupation of cleared spaces and further encroachment.

The involvement of the police and military personnel is expected to strengthen enforcement and support the sustained clearance of unauthorised activities along the affected corridor.

LAWMA said it remained committed to supporting the Lagos State Government’s efforts to improve environmental cleanliness, restore order in public spaces and promote a more organised urban environment.

The agency also reiterated the need for residents, traders and other road users to comply with environmental regulations and avoid occupying walkways and other unauthorised areas.
