Sanwo-Olu, Umahi flag off Eko, Marine Bridge repairs

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has joined the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, for the flag-off of repair works on the Eko Bridge and Marine Bridge in Lagos.

The governor was also part of a stakeholders’ engagement on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, as the Federal Government stepped up efforts to improve major road infrastructure connecting different parts of the state.

The Eko and Marine bridges are among the important transport routes in Lagos, carrying a large volume of commuters and goods daily. Their rehabilitation is expected to improve movement and address some of the challenges associated with the condition of major roads in the state.

Sanwo-Olu described the projects as significant interventions that would support Lagos’ transportation system and improve connectivity across the state.

“These are critical roads for Lagos, supporting the daily movement of people and goods across the State.”

The governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Works for the intervention, stressing that the projects would contribute to easing pressure on existing roads.

He said the rehabilitation of the bridges would be beneficial to residents, businesses and other road users who depend on the routes for their daily activities.

The Lagos State Government, according to the governor, would continue to maintain close cooperation with the Federal Government to ensure that the projects are completed and deliver the expected benefits to residents.

Sanwo-Olu said, “As a State, we will continue to work closely with the Federal Government to ensure these projects deliver real value to Lagosians.”

The stakeholders’ engagement also focused on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, one of the major infrastructure projects being undertaken by the Federal Government.

The coastal highway is expected to strengthen road connectivity and support economic activities along the coastal corridor. For Lagos, the project is particularly important because of the state’s position as Nigeria’s major commercial hub and its large population.

The governor’s participation in the engagement reflects the state government’s continued collaboration with the Federal Government on infrastructure projects that affect transportation and economic activities in Lagos.

With work now commencing on the bridges, attention will be on the timely execution of the repairs and the measures put in place to minimise disruption to motorists and other road users during the rehabilitation period.
