Invest more in people-oriented projects, Doherty urges LASG

Mr Funso Doherty, the Lagos State Governorship Candidate, National Democratic Congress, says the state government should intensify investments in people-oriented projects and community development initiatives.

Doherty, who made this known during an interview with the news men in Lagos on Thursday, said that this would improve residents’ quality of life.

He said that while Lagos had recorded significant infrastructural growth over the years, greater attention should be paid to projects that directly impacted the welfare of ordinary citizens.

He stressed that projects, particularly, in education, healthcare, housing, youth empowerment and social protection should be prioritised.

“Lagos is one of Africa’s most vibrant cities, but development should be measured not only by physical infrastructure but also by how it improves the daily lives of the people.

“Government must continue to invest in projects that touch every community and every household,” he said.

Doherty urged the state government to deepen grassroots development by partnering with community leaders, civil society organisations and the private sector to identify and address the peculiar needs of different communities.

“Every community has unique challenges and opportunities.

“A development model that encourages community participation will ensure that government’s interventions are more impactful, inclusive and sustainable,” he said.

The governorship candidate added that there was a need for policies that would support small businesses, create employment opportunities for young people and strengthen the state’s primary healthcare and educational systems.

“Our youths deserve opportunities to be productive, our schools deserve better facilities, and our healthcare centres should provide quality and affordable services.

“These are investments that will yield lasting benefits for the state,” he noted.

According to him, government should sustain environmental renewal programmes, improve waste management and expand urban renewal projects in underserved communities.

Doherty said that doing this would ensure balanced development across the state.

“A cleaner environment, improved roads, effective drainage systems and accessible public facilities are essential for sustainable development.

“Every part of Lagos should enjoy the dividends of good governance,” he said.

Doherty urged political office holders and public servants to embrace servant leadership and remain committed to policies that promoted justice, peace and social welfare.

“The true essence of leadership is service.

“Those entrusted with public office should always place the welfare of the people above personal or political interests and govern with integrity, compassion and accountability,” he said.

He called on Nigerians to continue supporting government’s efforts through peaceful coexistence, active citizenship and prayers for leaders at all levels.

“We all have a role to play in building a better society.

“Government, religious institutions, community leaders and citizens must work together to achieve sustainable development and national progress,” he added.
