Persistent rainfall: LAWMA moves to tackle operational pressure at Olusosun landfill

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified efforts to address operational challenges at landfill sites caused by persistent rainfall, as its management embarked on an on the spot assessment visit to the Olusosun Dumpsite in Lagos.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, led the inspection team on Wednesday alongside the Executive Director, Finance, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, and the National President of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWMAN), Mr. Olugbenga Adebola.
According to report, the visit was aimed at evaluating ongoing mitigation measures and strengthening coordination among key stakeholders in the waste management sector, particularly as heavy and continuous rainfall has increased pressure on landfill operations across the state.
During the assessment, the team reviewed operational activities at the Olusosun facility and engaged with waste management operators on strategies to improve efficiency under prevailing weather conditions.
Over the years the Olusosun Dumpsite has remained one of the major waste disposal facilities serving Lagos State, and has continued to experience increased activity due to seasonal rainfall patterns affecting waste collection and evacuation processes promting the intervention of LAWMA.
LAWMA assured residents that efforts are ongoing to stabilize operations and prevent service disruptions, while urging the public to support responsible waste disposal practices.
