Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has alleged widespread irregularities in the ongoing local government elections and called for an outright cancellation of the exercise.

Speaking on Saturday during an interview with Nigeria Info, Bucknor-Akerele expressed anger over her inability to vote at her polling unit, accusing electoral officials of disenfranchising voters.

She said: “I went to my polling unit, but my name is not on the register, several units have also been moved without notifying voters. Units that should be in front of Eko Hotel have now been relocated to Ajose Adeogun.”

She claimed the relocation of polling units and missing names were deliberate acts to rig the election in favour of a particular political party.

“There’s a clear effort to manipulate the process. Many people cannot vote because the polling units have been disrupted,” she alleged.

Bucknor-Akerele urged the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to cancel the election, citing disenfranchisement and widespread logistical failures.
