The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Southwest Zonal Caucus on Friday reaffirmed its loyalty to the party and dismissed claims of its involvement in any political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting held at the Olusoji Adagunodo Southwest PDP Zonal Secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo State, the caucus, after extensive deliberations, maintained that the PDP remains the most formidable party in the Southwest and across Nigeria.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders including Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who were commended for their “untiring roles in ensuring the stability and growth of the PDP.”
“The Southwest PDP is intact. We urge all organs and relevant bodies of the party to remain focused and work assiduously towards the success of the scheduled National Convention,” the communiqué read in part.
The caucus distanced itself from reports of a coalition with other political forces, urging party faithful to stand firm behind PDP leaders in the zone while supporting the National Working Committee’s (NWC) openness to alliances with “well-meaning like-minded citizens” to rescue Nigeria from what it called “the stranglehold of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
The PDP leaders condemned the withholding of Osun State Local Government allocation by the Federal Government, describing it as “unconstitutional, unwarranted, and a violation of the rights and wellbeing of the people of Osun State.”
They called for the immediate release of the funds, warning that such actions could undermine governance and development at the grassroots level.
Raising concern over worsening insecurity and economic hardship under the APC-led government, the caucus echoed Governor Makinde’s earlier declaration that “the 2027 election will be between Nigerians and the APC,” expressing confidence that Nigerians will “triumph under the banner of the PDP.”
The meeting also resolved to intensify efforts towards ensuring victory for the PDP in the upcoming bye-elections in Oyo and Ogun States as well as local government elections in Lagos State.
The communiqué, signed by Chief Sanya Atofarati, Southwest Zonal Publicity Secretary, urged Nigerians not to lose hope but to remain resolute and rally behind the PDP “as the party leads the charge to rescue the nation from misrule.”
