Lady narrowly escapes death, risks imprisonment in Lagos

A fashion designer identified as Olawale Olamide Olakitan has been reported missing after she narrowly escaped being lynched by a mob in Lagos State.

Eyewitnesses accounts revealed that Olakitan was attacked because she was in an intimate relationship with a fellow woman.

She was said to have been attacked towards the end of last year.

A video recording had showed Olakitan in a sexual relation with two other women, one of which was a married woman. This allegedly angered the mob who tried to kill her that day.

According to an eyewitness, who refused to disclose his name, “Olakitan was badly beaten that day with stones and sticks. They even wanted to burn her alive because they poured petrol on her and put a tyre on her neck.

“I think someone called the police. That was how they saved her from the angry mob. I later heard that she was taken to a hospital, and she ran away from the hospital.

“I don’t know the name of the hospital though, but I heard that there’s a lawsuit against her because of that homosexual stuff she did.”

Meanwhile, a relative, who also spoke on the condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that Olakitan risks jail term for her involvement in illegal relationship.

“We have been looking for her since because police have been harassing the family. They think we know where she is, but we don’t even know.

“And the police are not really telling us what’s going on. They said someone filed a lawsuit against her because she is homosexual.

“They almost arrested a family member because they thought that would help push Olakitan out of hiding,” the relative disclosed.
