Kwara PDP guber candidate Kawu welcomes Senator Saliu Mustapha from APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kwara State, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu, has welcomed Senator Saliu Mustapha into the party, describing his defection as a major boost to the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kawu, who made this known in a statement personally signed by him, congratulated Mustapha on his emergence as the PDP senatorial candidate for Kwara Central.

He described the senator, who recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC), as an experienced politician with strong grassroots connections and a good understanding of the political terrain in Kwara State.

According to Kawu, Mustapha’s decision to join the PDP goes beyond a mere change of political platform, saying it reflects the growing interest among stakeholders in building a more inclusive political movement in the state.

“I warmly welcome Senator Saliu Mustapha to our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party. His decision to join us and his emergence as our senatorial candidate for Kwara Central further strengthens our collective resolve to build a political movement that puts the people first,” Kawu said.

The PDP governorship candidate said Mustapha’s experience in the National Assembly and his years of engagement with residents of Kwara Central would provide additional value to the party as preparations begin for the 2027 elections.

He noted that politics should be centred on service and responsibility rather than personal interests, expressing confidence that the senator would contribute to the PDP’s plans for the state.

“Beyond party lines, politics is ultimately about service, trust and responsibility. I am confident that Senator Mustapha’s experience and understanding of our people will contribute meaningfully to our shared journey towards a better Kwara,” he said.

Kawu further said the entry of Mustapha into the PDP was coming at a time when the party was witnessing what he described as a renewed convergence of political leaders, stakeholders and ordinary citizens.

He argued that the development was an indication of increasing confidence in the party’s ability to provide what he called credible and people-oriented leadership.

The governorship candidate called on PDP members across Kwara Central and other parts of the state to receive Mustapha warmly and work with him towards strengthening the party.

He stressed that unity would be essential as the party positions itself for the 2027 elections.

Kawu said the PDP remained committed to providing a political platform where people from different backgrounds and generations could work together in the interest of Kwara State.

He added that the party’s focus would remain on good governance, development and improving the welfare of residents.

“Senator Mustapha’s experience and understanding of our people will contribute meaningfully to our shared journey towards a better Kwara,” Kawu reiterated.

He also congratulated Mustapha on his emergence as the PDP candidate for Kwara Central and wished him a successful campaign.

The development comes as political activities and realignments begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties seeking to strengthen their structures and attract influential figures across the country.

Kawu said the PDP would continue to welcome stakeholders willing to contribute to the party’s vision, while urging members to remain united and focused on the task ahead.

He expressed optimism that Mustapha’s presence would further strengthen the party’s chances in Kwara Central and contribute to its broader campaign ahead of 2027.
