Otti approves CONMESS salary harmonization for ABSUTH staff

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has directed the immediate harmonization and implementation of the 2023 and 2025 Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for health workers at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Aba.
The Governor gave the directive on Friday, following the receipt of a progress report presented by the Board and Management of ABSUTH, led by Dr. Ezinne Kalu.
Otti stated that the decision to harmonize the salary structure was taken to ensure fairness, clarity, and improved welfare for medical professionals serving in the state.
He noted that his administration has consistently allocated 15% of Abia State’s annual budget to the health sector to guarantee affordable and quality healthcare delivery across the state.
“Our administration has consistently invested in the health sector, dedicating 15% of the State’s annual budget to healthcare. This is not for profit, but to guarantee affordable and quality healthcare for every Abian,” Otti said.
“At the same time, we recognize that the welfare of our doctors, nurses, and other medical staff must be prioritized to retain talent and strengthen service delivery,” he added.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to upgrading healthcare infrastructure, the Governor highlighted ongoing efforts to restore lost institutional accreditations, recover concessioned facilities, and tackle manpower, welfare, and power supply deficits at the facility.
He commended the ABSUTH Board for submitting a data-driven report, expressing confidence that the ongoing reforms will transform the teaching hospital into a regional center of medical excellence.
