Kano approves N45.6bn for education, infrastructure, mass wedding projects
The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total of N45.6 billion for the execution of major developmental projects across key sectors including education, infrastructure, health, and religious affairs.
This was contained in a statement signed by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, at the end of the 32nd Council meeting held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Council Chamber, Kwankwasiyya City, Kano.
The statement reads partly: “The 32nd meeting of the Kano State Executive Council, presided over by His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, deliberated on a number of memoranda bordering on developmental projects, policy issues, and other matters of public interest.
“After extensive discussions, the Council approved the total sum of Forty-Five Billion, Six Hundred and Eleven Million, Two Hundred and Ninety-Four Thousand, Six Hundred and Six Naira, Four Kobo (N45,611,294,606.04) for the execution of critical projects across different sectors in the State.
“The Council reaffirmed its commitment to revitalising the education sector, improving healthcare delivery, and prioritising infrastructure development to enhance the welfare of citizens across all 44 local government areas.
“Furthermore, the administration remains resolute in its determination to promote social welfare and empower communities through sustainable programmes such as mass weddings, neighbourhood security, and youth development initiatives.”
According to the statement, the education sector received N7.77 billion, reflecting the government’s renewed drive to rebuild public schools and support basic education across the State. Major projects approved include the rehabilitation of Government Technical College, Kano; Government Day Science College; School for Arabic Studies, Kano; and the provision of classroom furniture in 44 local government areas under the Community Re-orientation Committees (CRC).
In the health sector, N802 million was approved for the procurement of medical equipment, the upgrading of Unguwar Dabai Health Centre, and the installation of modern facilities at the State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency.
The government also cleared outstanding liabilities inherited from the previous administration.
The works and infrastructure sector took the largest allocation, with ₦32.5 billion earmarked for major road reconstruction, drainage expansion, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights in 55 locations across Kano metropolis.
The Council also approved N2.35 billion for the construction of a rehabilitation centre at Dorayi Psychiatric Hospital and N288 million for the renovation of the Kano Central Mosque.
To boost community security, N796 million was allocated for the purchase of 455 motorcycles for the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch. Similarly, N1.006 billion was set aside under the Ministry of Religious Affairs for the conduct of mass weddings, aimed at promoting social stability and supporting vulnerable families.
The statement further revealed that N1.1 billion was approved for the settlement of energy bills and diesel supply for water treatment plants across the State, while N430 million was released to sponsor Kano athletes, coaches, and officials for the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
It added that new Commissioners — Barr. Abdulkarim Kabir Maude, SAN (Justice) and Dr. Aliyu Isah Aliyu (Livestock Development) — were sworn into the State Executive Council during the meeting, alongside Barr. Salisu Muhammad Tahir as Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice.
The Council also approved the renovation of all Local Education Authority offices across the 44 LGAs and received the Committee Report on the Kano State Mining Policy Framework, chaired by the Deputy Governor.
Governor Yusuf, the statement noted, received several national and continental awards in recognition of his leadership and commitment to development. These included awards from the Kano Cooperative Federation, ALGION, COESU North-West Zone, Joint National Public Service Negotiation Council, and the Africa 2025 Annual Conference.
Comrade Waiya, while appreciating the media for their continued partnership, reaffirmed that the Yusuf-led administration would continue to pursue transparent governance and people-centred policies that prioritise infrastructure, education, and security.
