Nigeria at 65: Etsu appeals for patience, support for national policies

As Nigeria marked her 65th Independence Anniversary, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development, Arch. Baba Hassan Etsu, called on Nigerians to be patient and supportive of ongoing national policies.

In a press statement, Arch. Etsu stated that Nigeria's 65-year journey has been one of resilience, unity, and progress.

He acknowledged the nation has "passed through many challenges," but maintained that the collective strength and courage of Nigerians have always ensured victory.

"The Independence Day reminds us of the sacrifices of our founding fathers who fought for freedom, justice, and self-governance. Their vision of a united and prosperous Nigeria continues to inspire us," he said.

"At 65, we must remain determined to strengthen our democracy and ensure purposeful development by building institutions that work for every Nigerian."

Arch. Etsu also commended the leadership of Governor Umar Bago for what he described as remarkable strides in infrastructure and human capital development in Niger State.

He noted that in the past two years, the state has witnessed massive road network development, both within the capital and across all 25 Local Government Areas. This effort involves the expansion of township roads and a deliberate attempt to connect rural and urban communities to spur economic growth.

The Permanent Secretary further highlighted the Governor's holistic dual approach, which places equal emphasis on both physical infrastructure, such as the construction of roads and structures, and human capacity building, aimed at empowering youth and women with skills and opportunities for self-reliance.

"This dual approach is a model that will secure a brighter future for Nigerlites by providing them with self-sustenance," Etsu asserted, thanking Governor Bago for bringing a "revolutionary change" to the state.

Concluding his message, Arch. Etsu stressed that development is a continuous journey, "not an event," which requires collective sacrifice and continuous support.

"I therefore appeal to all Nigerlites and Nigerians to remain steadfast, patient, and supportive of ongoing policies," Etsu re-emphasized. "With unity and trust, our challenges will become stepping stones to success."
