The Movement for Credible Elections (MCE) has called for the immediate resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan.
The group, which includes notable figures like Femi Falana (SAN), Professor Pat Utomi, and Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, alleges that the Chairman’s credibility has been compromised by partisan leanings.
The controversy stems from alleged digital footprints linking Professor Amupitan to expressions of support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
While the Chairman has denied these allegations, the MCE insists that denial is not a defense in an age of advanced digital forensics.
They are calling for an independent investigation involving judicial officers and forensic experts to verify the claims.
The group warned that any attempt to suppress these concerns through intimidation could further erode public trust in the electoral process.
They further emphasized that a neutral and beyond-reproach leadership at INEC is essential for national stability and the legitimacy of the upcoming 2027 general elections.
