Governor Umo Eno has reassured the people of Akwa Ibom State that the state’s ownership of its oil wells remains secure, dismissing recent reports of a transfer to Cross River State as baseless propaganda.
Speaking to Government House Correspondents upon his arrival at Victor Attah International Airport on Sunday, February 15, 2026, the Governor emphasized that no amount of sentiment can override the legal weight of two distinct Supreme Court judgments affirming Akwa Ibom’s territory.
Governor Eno clarified that the geographical and legal facts of the matter are settled.
He noted that Akwa Ibom shares its maritime boundaries with the Republic of Cameroon, not Cross River State a fact upheld twice by Nigeria’s highest court.
“The Nigerian Supreme Court has said so twice to establish this fact,” the Governor explained.
“The people on the other side may cook up any story they want or raise propaganda, but it has no effect in the face of these decisions. This is not about sentiments.”
The Governor expressed unwavering faith in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He highlighted the President’s commitment to the rule of law as a primary reason for the state’s lack of alarm, asserting that a democratic government cannot simply discard established judicial precedents.
He further challenged the logic of the opposing claims, questioning why irrefutable facts are being contested now.
He pointed out that if sentiments were the standard, Akwa Ibom could just as easily contest the historical allocation of several Ibibio-speaking villages in Itu LGA to Cross River State.
Meanwhile, the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has officially backed the Governor’s stance, issuing a rebuttal that characterized the rumored transfer as false and misleading.
Governor Eno reiterated that facts are sacrosanct and cannot be buried by misinformation.
Following his briefing, Governor Eno maintained his hands-on approach by proceeding directly from the airport to inspect the ongoing construction of the Airport Hospital.
The facility is on a fast track to meet an April deadline, coinciding with the scheduled commencement of international flights.
The Governor also visited the Dakkada Luxury Estate to assess construction progress and ensure that all work aligns with the state’s rigorous specifications.
