The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that the fire outbreak at Singer Market in Kano State has been successfully brought under control and contained following coordinated emergency response efforts by multiple agencies.
The response operation involved the deployment of personnel and firefighting equipment from NEMA, the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Fire Service, the Nigerian Air Force, and private sector fire units, all working collaboratively to contain the blaze and prevent further destruction.
Recall that the fire, which started on Saturday, 14th February, 2026, was initially brought under control shortly after it broke out due to the timely intervention of emergency responders.
However, pockets of fire persisted in parts of the market, necessitating sustained firefighting operations until the blaze was fully contained on Sunday.
Preliminary assessments indicate significant damage to market stalls, goods, motorcycles, and shops.
The Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, commended the swift response and cooperation of all participating agencies and stakeholders, noting that their collective efforts ensured the successful containment of the fire and protection of lives and surrounding property.
