Film board mourns security officer killed in Lekki cinema incident

The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) has expressed deep sadness over the death of a security officer in a violent incident at a cinema facility in Lekki, Lagos State.

In a statement signed by its Executive Secretary/CEO, Mrs. Adebukola A. Agbaminoja, the Board condoled with the deceased’s family, friends, and colleagues, describing the occurrence as tragic and unfortunate.

It also wished a second person injured during the incident a speedy and full recovery.

The LSFVCB noted that the incident highlighted the critical importance of maintaining effective safety and security protocols at cinemas and other entertainment facilities across the state.

According to the Board, cinema operators and entertainment industry stakeholders bear the responsibility of regularly reviewing their security measures and ensuring that comprehensive emergency-response plans are in place.

It urged operators to strengthen collaboration with law enforcement and security agencies to enhance the protection of cinema patrons, staff, and other visitors.

The Board’s statement comes as relevant security agencies continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Lekki cinema incident.

The LSFVCB advised members of the public to remain calm while the investigation is underway, cautioning against speculation and the spread of unverified information.

It reiterated that the safety and well-being of individuals within the entertainment sector remain of utmost importance, adding that lessons from such incidents must drive continuous improvements in emergency preparedness.
